Notes from the Perfumer

In Umbral I was trying to evoke a combination of a silk kimono and a traditional tobacco pipe, combining whisps of smoke with floral prints. For the floral patterns, I used magnolia (champaca), and to create the feeling of silk I combined musks, benzoin and ambery notes for a shiny effect. For the tobacco note, I incorporated a plum accord, which brings out the fruity side of the tobacco, and enhanced it all with sansho pepper CO2, jasmine absolute and labdanum round out the sweetness and bitter notes.”
